Anna Lee Gross, 95, of Bloomington passed away April 2, 2010 at Garden Villa.   She was born in a two story house on Deckard Ridge in Brown County to Raleigh   and Bessie (Woods) Deckard on May 1, 1914.  She attended the Deckard School from 1st-8th grade and had all Deckard’s as teachers. She went to high school in Jackson County and Danville, IN. She received a Masters Degree from Indiana University.  Anna Lee taught in a one room school. She started at Burgoon in Monroe County, Needmore in Helmsburg and Nashville in Brown County. She also taught at Camp Atterbury during WWII.  Anna Lee married Russell Gross December 24, 1945 in Franklin. Russell worked at I.U. so they moved to Bloomington and Anna taught at Unionville.  She is survived by one daughter Mary Gill, three grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one sister Lois Carter.   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.  Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Rev. Michael Douglas officiating.

    I knew Anna Lee because she was a Dleta Kappa Gamma member, a retired teacher, and a contributor to Echoes From the One-Room Schools of Monroe County. I visited Anna Lee at her Highland Village Home. When Helen Sturbaum and I announced ourselves as Vice President and President, she looked us over and remarked, "Well, they sent the top brass!" We had a lovely visit. She contributed so much to the educational process. I am glad to have known her. Please accept my condolences.
