Betty W. Deckard, 80, of Bloomington passed away on Wednesday, June
15th at I.U. Health-Bloomington Hospital in the presence
of her loving family. She was born in Pinhook, Indiana the
daughter of Lovell and Lillie (Winegar) Sowders and attended
Shawswick High School. She was a retired employee of Cook,
Inc. and previously worked for Sarkes Tarzian Corp., RCA of
Bloomington and Bloomington Plastics. She was the first
female school bus driver for the Monroe County School
Corporation.
The true loves of Betty's life were her church and her
family. She loved to sing, served as choir leader and often
as a greeter at the Sanders Pentecostal Church where she was a
longtime member. Her family, her husband, her children, her
grandchildren and her great grandchildren were precious to her.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Becky
Deckard of Springville, three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and
Roger Vaught of Bloomington, Karen Hale of Phoenix, AZ and Joy and
Steve King of Bloomington, ten grandchildren, nineteen great
grandchildren, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Jim
Ray, Carol and Don Andis and Kay and Randy King, all of Bedford and
one brother and sister-in-law, Lovell "Jr." and Penny Sowders, also
of Bedford; her step-mother, Jane Sowders, half sister, Christy
Sowders and step-sister, Trudy Holtzclaw, all of Indianapolis and
one sister-in-law, Donna Sowders of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ancil Deckard in 1994 and
one brother, Danny Sowders.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Sanders
Pentecostal Church with Rev. Joe Nelson officiating. Burial
will be at Clover Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Allen
Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37 from 2:00-8:00 p.m.
Friday and at the church on Saturday one hour preceding the
services.
