Caridad C. Moran
Date Of Birth:April 19, 1914
Date Of Death:February 14, 2010

Caridad C. Moran was born in Camaguey, Cuba on April 19, 1914 - one of ten children of Rufina Montalban and Juan Corrales. In 1935, she married Dr. Emilio F. Moran, a physician, and the love of her life. She was left a widow in 1947 and dedicated her life to raising her son, born just a year before. She took her son out of Cuba in 1958 and lived for 20 years in Orlando, Florida, where she worked as a seamstress for many years at a fine women’s clothing store, Gibbs-Louis. She became a U.S. citizen in 1964. In 1982, when she knew that she would soon have a grand-daughter, she moved to Bloomington, Indiana. There, she continued to work as a seamstress at several clothing stores, including Whitesides on the square, Redwood and Ross, Sullivan’s, and the King Shop. In both work and life she was characterized by her joy in life, her indomitable spirit, and her ability to share this joy and strength with others. Everyone who came in contact with her was deeply touched by her love and kindness. She loved to cook for her friends and family to the very end, and was planning the next dinner party the week she passed away. She had a deep and sustaining faith in God, and a strength of will that astounded everyone who knew her. She prayed daily for friends and family, was grateful for every kindness, and never forgot anyone who was kind to her or her family. She met every challenge with great perseverance and unfailing cheerfulness, overcoming the obstacles of the untimely death of her husband, exile from her country of birth and having to start over again in another country, and many years living alone. She lived the final 27 years of her life happily in Bloomington, close to her son and granddaughter. She died February 14, 2010 at the age of 95, from congestive heart failure and complications, at Bloomington Hospital. She is survived by her son Emilio Moran ; her granddaughter Emily Moran; Millicent Fleming-Moran, Emily’s mother (whom she always treated like a daughter) ; her brother Felipe Corrales (102); her nieces Gisela Zorrilla and Lucita Mendez; and her grand-niece Maki—as well as the many friends who were touched by her over her long life. The family thanks the nurses and staff at Bloomington Hospital for taking such good care of Caridad and her family. Following her wishes, a memorial was held Feb. 15 to celebrate a life well lived and the joy she brought to others, which was attended by family and close friends. I met your mother many years ago when I worked for Woodington Courts as a Property Manager. She was one of the sweetest ladies I had ever met. She did not rent the apt, but her beautiful smile has stuck with me. I would occassionally run into to her at the mall. We would always speak and she remembered who I was. I even gave her a ride home a couple of times. Bloomington has definitely lost an Angel and gift from God. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daugther. Bennita (Booher) Woodward
