Charles (Chuck) Eugene Cummins
Date Of Birth:February 9, 1937
Date Of Death:August 2, 2011
Service Date:August 7, 2011

Charles (Chuck) Eugene Cummins (74), of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away on August 2, 2011, at Methodist Hospital following a brief illness.  Born in Brazil, Indiana, February 9, 1937, to Charles and Wanita Cummins he is survived by his wife Deanna Cummins; his children: Doug Cummins (Trafalgar), Jim and Donna Carlson (Indianapolis), Lauri Carlson (Franklin), Frank and Deanna Cummins (Noblesville), and Dawn Cummins-Wheeler (Mooresville); his grandchildren: Michael Carlson, Kira Carlson, Chelsea Cummins, Justin Carlson, Alex Wheeler, Shawn Cummins, Ashley Wheeler, Faith Cummins; his great grandchildren: Madison, Michael, and Andrew Carlson; his sister, Sharon Brown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and family from coast to coast across the United States.  Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bill and Tom.

Chuck proudly served his county as an airplane run-up and troubleshooting mechanic in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958, while stationed in Anchorage, Alaska.  An Indiana State University alumni, Chuck worked 32 years with RCA/Thompson Electronics in Bloomington, Indianapolis and El Paso, Texas.  While in Texas, Chuck commuted daily into Juarez, Mexico, for work, becoming fluent in Spanish during his time in Texas.  Chuck enjoyed a variety of music types, was an avid reader of almost any book he could lay his hands on, enjoyed old western movies and television shows and woodworking.  He especially enjoyed traveling across the county with Deanna in their RV.

While in Texas, he met the love of his life, Deanna.  Almost inseparable, the couple met in 1979 at a Parents without Partners gathering.  The pair quickly fell in love and were married on July 18, 1981.  The couple spent thirty wonderful years together, raising their family, traveling frequently and enjoying life daily.  Of Irish descent and a fan of Gaelic music, Chuck and Deanna enjoyed hosting Irish parties.  For many years the couple hosted an annual Jimmy Buffett blowout, the highlight of many peoples' summer.

Easy going and even tempered, Chuck never met a person he didn't like.  Chuck left friends throughout the United States and Mexico.  He was remembered fondly by his friends from work, friends from his time with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (where he was instrumental in the formation of the Nashville, Indiana, Chapter Z and served for a while as the State Director) , his RV traveling friends, as well as anyone else he came in contact with from store clerks to the nurses and staff of Indiana University West, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indianapolis, and Methodist hospital, who fought valiantly to keep Chuck with us.

Chuck has influenced many with his quick wit, wisdom, and affable personality.  While Chuck's legacy lives on through his wife, children, grandchildren and other's whose life he influenced, he will be sorely missed by all and the world is a poorer place for his loss.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011, from 2:00-5:00pm at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old State Road 37, Bloomington, Indiana. Services will immediately follow visitation on Sunday.

In Lieu of Flowers, contributions can be made to Pets Alive, Monroe County Humane or Relay for Life.

I am sorry to read of Gene's (as we knew him when we were neighborhood kids) death. I had not seen him for many years and had lost track of him and the rest of the family. It is obvious that he lived a full and satisfying life. Please accept my condolences.

It was with great saddness that I learned of Chucks passing. I always enjoyed his sense of humor and the opportunity to exchange friendly jabs at each other while at RCA and later when he provided rides to work when I had my truck serviced. The world is a little less bright today because of the the lack on one of it's shining stars. So sorry for your loss which is shared by all who knew Chuck. Our prayers are with you. Joe

I shared rides with Chuck across the border to work in Mexico for RCA in the years before 1981, and we knew each other from before that at RCA in Bloomington. We lived in the same neighborhood in El Paso. Chuck was a good friend and will be sorely missed. My condolences.

Dear Deanna, Sharon,to All of Gene's children & Grandchildren, I'm so sorry for your loss. Gene was A Wonderfull person, A Good Man,and a kind, caring individual. He was my cousin. Although I had lost track of Gene & Sharon for many years, I had the opportunity to see them again, spend time with them in 1987. It was'nt till this last winter, that Gene & my paths crossed again, when my daughter, Tracy Cagle, located Gene once more. My daughter ( who never had met Gene in person ) said she was impressed, she really liked him & enjoyed talking to him by phone. ThaT was the effect he had on other's and I'm sure he never met a Stranger. This World is A Little Darker, more sad, due to his passing. May God Be Near You All, Bless You and May He Comfort & Strenghten each one of you.

Thank You for sharing him with me for just a short time, he helped me a lot on my quest for more information about the Cummins Family. I wish I could have met him and all of you in person.
