Dr. Katherine "Kat" Domingo
Date Of Birth:January 30, 1974
Date Of Death:March 18, 2011

Dr. Katherine “Kat” Domingo (1974-2011) was born in the Philippines and has lived in Bloomington since 1996. She earned her masters and doctoral degrees at the Jacobs School of Music.

Kat served as President of My Stroke of Insight, Inc., a company she ran with Jill Bolte Taylor, local neuroanatomist and author.

Most recently founding and directing the Bloomington Peace Choir, Kat’s lifelong passion of helping to heal the planet through music began when she was named the assistant director of the International Vocal Ensemble in 1999, for which she was appointed director in 2006. She served as a full-time faculty member of the Jacobs School for four years.

In 2004, Kat was a Fulbright Fellow in the Philippines, studying the choral music of her native country for her dissertation on Philippine nationalism and music.

Kat’s undergraduate studies were at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.

Kat considered her eight-year battle with breast cancer to be one of her greatest blessings, crediting the experience with providing her with a new and enhanced perspective of the importance of life’s daily miracles and encounters with people.

She is survived by Taylor, her parents Romeo and Imelda Domingo of Whiting, NJ, brother Wilbert of Shererville, IN, sister Wilma of Bridgewater, NJ, one nephew, three nieces, and many friends and chosen family.

Kat transitioned peacefully at home on March 18 and a Celebration of Life will be held at Unity of Bloomington on April 2, at 3pm. Donations can be made to the Lotus Education and Arts Foundation in memory of Kat Domingo. P.O. Box 1667, Bloomington, IN 47402 or lotusfest.org.

Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37 is handling the arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.

Kat, you are such a blessing to all of us who know you. You graciousness just jumped out as soon as I met you. You and Jill have always been such a support to us, especially when we were dealing with the shock of a stricken son. We'll miss seeing you in this life and look forward to renewing our friendship in the next. John

It was wonderful knowing Kat--her pleasant disposition and ever-present smile revealed a generous and caring person. Bloomington is a better place for her having been her.
