Mary Ann Prieshoff Gilligan
Eleanor Mary Ann Prieshoff Gilligan, 97, a fifty-year resident of Bloomington, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012.
She was born July 24, 1915 in Alexandria, IN, one of seven daughters and three sons of Phillip and Theresa (Ross) Prieshoff (originally from Stolberg, Germany).
Mary Ann attended Alexandria High School and went on to enroll at the Anderson Business College in the 1930s, then worked at General Motors in Anderson, IN. After moving to Bloomington, while raising her family, Mary Ann was active for years volunteering in 4-H, the National Federation of Music Clubs and the annual Junior Music Festivals, and at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and school. She was an avid gardener.
Survivors include one son, John G. Gilligan  and wife Barbara of Cary, NC; and four daughters, Laura Reed of Bloomington,  IN; Nancy Webber and husband Chuck of Bloomington, IN; Catherine Born and husband Tom of Cicero, IN; Mary Ann Gilligan of Milwaukee, WI;  grandchildren and their spouses Theresa (Gilligan) & Dragos Coles of Cary, NC, Beth (Webber) & Martin Shrader of Chesterton, IN; Sgt. Douglas Reed of Yokota, Japan; Karl Born of Cicero, IN; Tony Born of Indianapolis, IN; Chad Webber of Hastings, MN; Lisa (Gilligan) & Matt Higgins of San Diego, CA; Alyssa Reed of Portland, OR; Erika Born of Atlanta, GA; Michael Gilligan of Atlanta, GA; Kimberly Webber of Bloomington, IN; and Ross Nevin of Milwaukee, WI., and her great granddaughter Catherine Higgins of San Diego, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Gilligan, who passed on June 21, 1985; three brothers, Bernard Prieshoff, John Prieshoff, and Anthony Prieshoff; six sisters, Philomena Prieshoff, Catherine Bickell, Aurelia Wohlhieter, Leona Diamond, Louise Ellis, and Martha Scohy; and one son, Timothy Michael.
Friends may call on Friday August 3, 2012 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10:00AM. Burial is to follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
