Frank D. Pruett, 76, of Carmel, formerly of Bloomington, passed away at his home on Wednesday surrounded by his family.

Frank was born on December 13, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana, the youngest son of Lowell Wayne and Bernice (Hughes) Pruett.  Frank graduated from University High School and received his undergraduate and Master's degrees from Indiana University.  Following his graduation from IU Frank moved to Midland, Texas and began his career with Chevron Corporation.  Frank's service with Chevron as Exploration Manager of Chevron Overseas Petroleum moved him to Texas, Oklahoma and California.  Upon retirement from Chevron, Frank returned to Bloomington and began fulfilling his vision of developing a unique neighborhood for Bloomington residents to call home.  This dream culminated in the development of Lanam Ridgeview Estates.

Frank was an avid fan of Indiana University in all forms (not just basketball).  His dear friends in California often accused him of being a secret recruiter for IU because of his passionate talk about the University.  Frank was also an avid outdoorsman who loved any chance to spend his time in nature.

Frank is survived by his wife, Shirley (Hankins), his children Greg (Nancy) of Fishers, James Bradley of Union, Kentucky, Barry (Amanda) of Carmel and Penny of Fishers, seven grandchildren, Chris, Taylor Caitlin, Scott, Taylor James, Cameron, Dallas and Peyton, his brothers John (Pat) Pruett of St. Louis, Charles (Edna) Pruett of Madison, Wisconsin, his beloved in-law family, Jean and Robert Helmond of Plainfield, Ruth Richardson of Bloomington and Mary Lou Violette of Tucson, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Frank will be Tuesday, July 5th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with funeral services 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6th at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37, Bloomington.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials for Frank be sent to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to the IU Foundation to benefit the geology department.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.

Dear Shirley and all the young Pruett's.. I send my sincere sympathy for the loss of such a good family man, an excellent fun loving husband and father. You and Frank were such emotional supporters during the difficult transfer and transition to California. The parties that you gave at your home, always filled with laughter and good food made things much more bearable for all who attended. As always, you want to continue to do something positive for those in need by supporting the Michael J. Fox Foundation in the search for a cure of Parkinson's Disease. I would love to see the family again. If you are ever in Oklahoma please come to see me. I live on 15 acres south of a berg called Blanchard (West of Norman) in an old farm house, but it suits me fine. No neighbors and lots of critters. Phone: (405) 485-8828. You are always welcome. Again, I am sorry for your loss of Frank..always a positive, happy, smiling man who loved EVERYTHING, especially his wife and children. God Speed Frank...nice to know there is such a good Angel looking out for us down here. Love to all, Susie Purcell

Shirley, Sad news in deed. I have known you and Frank for so many years, it is difficult to count. He was a true professional and that is a high complement. He had a style all his own and was as creative a person as I have ever known. But this is for me! I know you will miss him greatly. I lost B.J. a month of so ago and can totally sympathize with the emotions that go with loosing a life companion. Lee Lawyer

Shirley and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I only knew Frank later in his life as a part of the Indiana Geology Advisory Board, but he had the passion and enthusiasm of a much younger man. We had long discussions, usually in violent agreement, of the benefits of classical geologic education and importance of training in the field. He had deep convictions, strong opinions and a wealth of experience which he readily shared. He could be a tough challenger and laugh about it later. I liked that. I miss him. He was unique.

Shirley, I just learned of your loss. I am so sorry. My thoughts are with you. I am sure this holiday season is rough for you without Frank. I miss Janet & Richard, but imagine they are all looking down on us. Take care.

Shirley, I just found out about Frank's passing. I am deeply saddened and sorry for your loss. Frank will always hold a special spot in our hearts - in the few years we knew him he left us with many memories. His passion for rocks, matched by my daughters often left scouring the area for geodes. "Papa Frank" as my kids so fondly called him. And a very funny memory of Frank telling us to stop by for a party only to realize when we got there, he told us the wrong day.....he is missed.
