Gene F. Burris, of Bloomington, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 at Golden Living Center. He was 84 years old.
Born October 28, 1925 in Bloomington, IN he was the son of Elza and Cordia (Hargis) Burris. He was had worked as a tree-trimmer, and at the Bloomington Packing House before retiring from Bloomington High School South as a custodian. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Church of Jesus Christ in Martinsville.
Gene is survived by five sons, Robert Burris, Steve Burris, Mike Burris and his wife Shaire, Jim Burris and his wife Eula and Chuck Burris all of Bloomington; three daughters, Donna Burke and husband Chris of Bloomington, Armetta Hudson and husband Eddie of Greene County and Sherry Lewis of Bloomington; two step-sons, Jim Schultz and Jack Schultz of Bloomington; fourteen grandchildren, Chris Burke Jr., Brandon Burke, Robbie Allgood, Clarissa Sullivan, Steven Burris, Craig Burris, Robert Burris Jr., Alisha Burris, Mike Burris, Tracy Burris, Amanda Burris, Chrystal Hardiman, Chuckie Burris and Tammy Modlin; and twenty two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife Dorothy Burris, step-daughter Janet Sue Schultz, grandson Raymond Burris, brother Robert Burris and sister Edith Drake.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Rd. 37, with Brother L.D. Axsom officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11:00 am until time of service.
