Harriet Eisenbeis Curts, a resident of Bloomington for 47 years, went peacefully to be with her Creator on Wednesday afternoon on October 25th, with her beloved husband Tom and her family at her side.  "Happy", as she was known to her friends and family, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania March 19th, 1929 to Carl and Mildred Eisenbeis.  She graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA and later attended Indiana University where she received a Masters Degree in Education.

Happy deeply valued education and always told her children that the sky was the limit.  She was exceedingly proud of the academic and professional achievements of all four of them: Rear Admiral Elaine Wagner of Portsmouth, Virginia, Chief of Navy Dental Corps and Commander of Navy Medicine East; Dr. Janet Clark of Indianapolis, a pediatric dentist and American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Diplomate; Dr. William Campbell Jr. MD of Bloomington, an Board Certified anesthesiologist.; and Dr. Andrew Campbell  MD of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a Board Certified facial plastic surgeon.

Happy was an excellent and devoted teacher who specialized in literacy and as a Title I instructor taught remedial reading in the Monroe County School System for 21 years.  Happy advocated at the Statehouse in Indianapolis regarding the importance of providing methods of reading instruction in early elementary education that addressed the needs of disadvantaged children.  Her reward was the knowledge that academic achievement was made possible for young students regardless of their socio economic status or academic history.

Whatever she did, Happy always gave 100% and this was never more evident than the way she served her church, Evangelical Community Church.  She and Tom taught Sunday School for many, many years and Happy was the Superintendent of Sunday School for several terms as well.  She also enjoyed attending Bible Study Fellowship where she made many wonderful friends.  She was a loving mentor and role model to women young and old as she lived out her Christian faith and beliefs on a day-to-day basis.

After retiring from teaching, Happy devoted many hours volunteering in Monroe County as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children or CASA.  She was deeply committed to advocating for abused and neglected children in the judicial system.  As a result of her extraordinary efforts, she received the 2008 Outstanding CASA Volunteer Award from the Indiana Retired Teacher's Association presented by Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Happy was dearly loved by her ten grandchildren Jimmy Clark (age 24), Holly Clark (22), Katherine Clark (18), Carl Campbell (18), Austin Campbell (15), Rachel Campbell (15), Annie Clark (15), Alexandra Campbell (12), William Campbell IV (11), Quintessa Campbell (5), and Tom's grandchildren Sam Curts (17), Henry Curts (14), and Elliot Curts (5).

She is survived by her husband Tom, her children Elaine Wagner (Greg); Janet Clark (Murray), Bill Campbell (Lori), and Andrew Campbell (Heidi), Tom's children Jay Curts (Erin) and Jordy Curts (Darby), her nephew Len Eisenbeis (Chris), two nieces, Beth Dunstan (Bill) and Ginny Zawacki (Brian) and her 13 grandchildren.  Happy was predeceased by her parents, her brother Carl Eisenbeis, and her daughter Cheryl.

Viewing will be Sunday at Allen Funeral Home, (4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, IN) from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with a funeral service on Monday at Evangelical Community Church beginning at 11:00 AM.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Court Appointed Special Advocate (for children) Association, (CASA) http://www.monroecountycasa.org/.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.

Tom and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Happy was such a kind person and wonderful teacher. She helped both of my boys with reading and at her request I served on a parents panel for the program. Her dedication is missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sam Kindred

It was such a joy and privilege to teach with Happy. I witnessed as she inspired, influenced, enriched & touched the lives of countless numbers of children. "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me." (Matt. 18:5) Happy was like one of God's angels...whose special assignment here on earth was to watch over little children. She was my dear and precious friend. I will carry "Happy" thoughts within my heart forever. My deepest sympathy and love, Julie Oyler
