Helen Elizabeth Friedmann Murray, “Lynn” died on May 1, 2010 at Meadowood Health Pavilion, Bloomington, Indiana. She was born on 10/9/1923 in New York City to John and Helen (Halsted) Friedmann. She and her three brothers attended New Rochelle High School. Lynn followed in the family tradition by attending Beloit (WI) College, graduating in 1947. She met Martin J. Murray in Beloit in 1948 and they were married in 1949. Home was Rockford, IL. Lynn was a homemaker and active in the Rockford community: a member of the Delta Delta Delta Alumnae Club; American Field Service as a Host Parent and committee member; a member of the board of the YWCA; a member of the board of the Rockford Day Nursery; a member of the Forbes Department of the Rockford Women’s Club; a long-time ‘Pink Lady’ at Rockford Memorial Hospital and many other activities through the years. Lynn moved to Bloomington in 2009 to be nearer to her daughter, Mary Jane Hall. Although she gave up many cherished friendships and bridge partners when she moved, she loved her new home at Meadowood and the Bloomington community. Preceding her in death were her husband of fifty five years, Martin J. Murray, her brother, J. Robert Freeman, Martin’s brother, Robert, and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Ann Freeman and Harriet Freeman. Also preceding her in death were her parents and step-father William Lerch. Lynn is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Hall and husband, Robert K. Hall, II; grandsons: Robert “Chip” Hall, III (Indianapolis) and John Hall (Jersey City, NJ); brothers: Donald Freeman and his wife Marlene (Grand Rapids, MI) and J. Thompson Freeman and his wife Ruth (Tulsa, OK). She is also survived by sisters-in-law Evelyn Freeman (Dallas, TX) and Elizabeth Murray (Mokena, IL) and 23 nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her American Field Service daughter, Ragnhild Noraberg Idso of Lyngdal, Norway. The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the kind staff at Meadowood and Bloomington Hospice. At the request of the decedent, services will be private. Friends are encouraged to celebrate Lynn’s life by participating in the special activities that she enjoyed so much: dining with friends and family or strolling though public gardens or arboreta. Memorials may be made to the Beloit Fund of Beloit College, Beloit WI, 53511.
