Howard Edward Pyles, 92, of Bloomington, IN passed away at his
residence on July 7, 2011. He was born in Eden, AL on
December 26, 1918 to John B. and Minnie (Moody) Pyles. Howard
retired after 30 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a
Lieutenant Colonel. Howard was a veteran of WW II, Korean,
and the Vietnam Wars. He was a survivor of Iwo Jima.
His memberships include the Monroe Lodge #22 F. &A.M. in
Bloomington, IN, Shrine Temple in Tampa, FL, and Masonic Rite in
Arlington, VA. He was a 32 degree Mason.
Howard is survived by his wife of 70 years Virginia Marie
(Keeler) Pyles, daughter Lillian Bartlett and her husband David of
Bloomington, IN, brother Elan Pyles of Anniston, AL, grandson
Andrew M. Bartlett and his wife Mindy of Bloomington, IN, and three
great-grandchildren Isabelle, Gabriel, and Dimon Bartlett.
Visitation will be Monday 4-7pm on July 11, 2011 at the
Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old State Road 37 Bloomington, IN
47401. A Masonic service will take place at 7pm at the
funeral home on Monday. A private burial service will be held at
the Quantico Virginia National Cemetery at a later date.
