Hugh Andrew Wagnon Jr. "Drew", Oct. 20, 1939 - Nov. 4, 2011
Drew's life began aboard one of the last ships to leave London
during WWII. He was born to Hugh and Delos Wagnon in Kansas
City, Missouri. It was two years before he met his father who
was a war correspondent in Europe for the Associated Press.
He was able to contribute his keen intellect toward an intense
desire to understand the world that surrounds us and lies
within. His endeavors in life were a direct result of this
attribute. There is time and space to list only a few of
these accomplishments here. One of these being Wild Dog
Magazine, which played a significant role in the poetic movement
during the 1960's. He also established the Chaise Mansion
Bookstore which was a unique source of literary culture for the
region in El Paso, Texas. Drew was a true Renaissance
man with many interests including organic farming and husbandry,
showcasing music in the Mesilla Valley while managing the Anthony
Gap Saloon in Anthony Texas, and a creative writer and editor of
many published works. On the practical side, he was an
electrician, housing inspector, high rise steel worker, printing
press operator, and postal worker.
Drew was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Delos and
Hugh, and Sister De. He is survived in life by a wonderful, devoted
son, Brett, his grandson little Drew, an uncle, Clyde, two
brothers, John and David, nephews, Casey, Chris, Cary, and Jimmy, a
niece, Jessica, ex-wife Terry, ex-wife Jenny, and
sister-in-law/daughter/friend, Mary.
If ever you were blessed with the opportunity to gaze into the eyes
of this man while engaging in conversation your life has been
touched in a way that all of the words from all the books
that he read cannot begin to explain. Drew has left this life
surrounded by the immense love and positive energy that was sent
out by each of you to this man who seemed to know something
more. We will walk away with a renewed sense of discovery and
broadened perspective on life having been touched by this wonderful
soul. Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37 is
handling the arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the
family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.
