Carl Feltner, Jr.
Date Of Birth:Dec. 29, 1930
Date Of Death:Dec. 15, 2010

Carl Feltner, Jr., 79, of Bedford died on Wednesday, Dec. 15th at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford.  He was born in Lawrence County on December 29, 1930 the son of Isaac Carl and Juanita (Allen) Felton, Sr.  Following graduation from high school, he became a sergeant with the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Carl was an accomplished and talented stone carver, working in the limestone industry throughout the country.  Naturally, he worked with various stone mills in the area.  Most importantly though, Carl loved and enjoyed providing for his family.  He delighted in pulling the grandchildren around the yard in the wagon he made for them, to garden and be outdoors, perhaps fishing or mushroom hunting.  He, along with his wife Dorothy enjoyed the many flea markets and auctions they would go to looking for that special “treasure”.

Survivors include four children; Rita (husband Steve) Norris of Pawnee, IL, Bruce E. (wife Jeannie) Felton of Austin, TX, Julie (husband Ed) Smith of Liberty Hill, TX and Jill Hunt of Bedford, eleven grandchildren and four great, grandchildren, and by one sister, Carol Todd of Bedford. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Holly and Maggie, his faithful companions following the death of his wife.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy Gale (Nikirk) Feltner and one son, Scott Feltner.

Private family services will be held at a later date.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.  Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37, Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.

I am so sorry for your loss. My parents and several Aunts and Uncles knew Carl from Oolitic High School and I can't remember a time when I had not heard of him. For a short time, I worked in the office of Star Stone/Star Quarry, and at the time, Carl was buying stone from them, so we had several occasions to speak, both in person and on the telephone. He was a vary nice man, and I'm sure you are blessed for having had him for so long. It is never easy to lose someone you love, but this time of year makes it seem more painful. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers and ask God to send you extra blessings at this time.
