James Clayton Carmichael, 87, of Ellettsville and a former 60 year
resident of Stanford passed away on Tuesday evening, May 8, 2012 at
Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care in Ellettsville. He was
born on February 13, 1925 in Greene County the son of Ray and Addie
(Floyd) Carmichael and attended Solsberry High School. He
retired after forty-two years as a planerman in the limestone
industry and was an Army veteran of World War II, having received
three bronze stars for injuries suffered during the war. He
was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and I.U. Basketball,
always waiting to see what the next season's team would be
like. Clayton was of the protestant faith and loved to coach
little league baseball and was a member of the Mill Workers
Union.
Clayton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary R. (Boshears)
Carmichael, one daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Bo Hardy
of Ellettsville, two sons and daughters-in-law; Steve and Marsha
Carmichael of Fullerton, CA and Rick and Mary Beth Carmichael of
Danville, IN, one daughter-in-law, AnnaLee Carmichael of Avon, IN,
eight grandchildren; Kimi (Bob) Coughlan, Jason Carmichael, Darby
(Julie) Carmichael, Chad (Kim) Carmichael, Tyler (Kayla)
Carmichael, Courtney Carmichael, J.C. Hardy and David Hardy, nine
great grandchildren, three sisters; Ruby (Don) Shiflet and Wilma
(Bill) Hanna, both of Bloomington, Helen East of Ellettsville and
three brothers; Clovis (Mary) Carmichael of Smithville, Wayne
(Betty) Carmichael of Bloomington and Keith (Joyce) Carmichael of
Kokomo, IN.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (Koons)
Carmichael, one son, Jimmie Dale Carmichael, one sister, Edna
Johnson and one brother, Dennis Carmichael.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2012 at
Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37 in Bloomington with Rev.
Roger Helton officiating. Burial will be at Greene County
Chapel Cemetery where the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard will
conduct Military Graveside rites. Friends may call at the
funeral home on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour preceding
the services on Monday.

School Corp. Student Assistance Fund in care of the funeral
