John William Richardson passed away Saturday night surrounded by
his loving family at his home. He was the son of Jack and Marjorie
Richardson born on August 31, 1946 in Terre Haute, IN.He was the
husband of Ruth E. Richardson and father to Adam (Laine)Florida,
Laura Steuber (Neil) Illinois and Patrick (Mary)Indiana. He was the
proud grandpa to six year old twins, Jack and Sean
Steuber. He served in the military in the 1970's and was
stationed inKorea. He was formerly a State Archaeologist and
retired from The Division of Reclamation in Jasonville, IN as an
Assistant Director. He served on the Board of Directors of the
Indiana Society of Mining and Reclamation. John, with a close
colleague, developed the software for the Blasting Certification
Training Program to certify Blasters in the 1980's which has been
widely used. John enjoyed many different hobbies. He played
the drums in a band for many years. He has also done extensive
research with genealogy and loved sharing this with family and
friends. He was skillful with computers and enjoyed photography; he
took pleasure in sharing these interests with others. John was also
an avid sailor and member of the Lake Monroe Sailing Association,
for which he served several times on the Board of Directors. He was
highly respected by his colleagues, family and friends. He will be
missed greatly by all who knew and cared for him. He was
preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bobby. Surviving
relatives include two brothers, George and Gary, and one sister,
Ruby Rose. He also has numerous brother/sister-in laws along with
many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Allen
Funeral Home in Bloomington, IN, on Friday, December 9th from
4:00-8:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Apostle
Catholic Church, in Bloomington, IN on Saturday, December 10th at
10:00am with visitation one hour prior to service. Final interment
will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later
date. The family wishes to thank IU Health Hospice Bloomington
staff for their kind assistance to John and his family. In
lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to IU Health
Hospice Bloomington or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
