            John V. Mangus, Sr., 78, passed away July 7, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family.  He was born on September 16, 1932 to Adelaide and Vincent Mangus in Pompton Lakes, NJ.  He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from January 1953 through December 1954.  John was an industrial engineer retried from Otis Elevator with 36 years of service, one of the original group of supervisors and managers sent from the east coast to open the Bloomington plant in 1965.  After retirement he was the "chair man" at the Uptown Café, repairing not only the chairs, but anything and everything that required fixing.  He was an at-home designer and inventor, and an advocate of protecting small farms and rural life in Indiana.

            John was a member of the American Legion and the Hendricksville Community Association.  He married Jeanne Dow in 1953, they recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.  He is also survived by his wife Jeanne, his daughter Kim of Eustis, FL, his daughter Jennifer of Indianapolis, IN, his son John and daughter-in-law Shawn of Ellettsville, IN and his two grandsons, Vincent and Dominic of Ellettsville.  He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, James.

            Friends may call at Allen Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday.  The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.  The Veterans Honor Guard will perform Military Graveside rites at the cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.  John fought 3 brave battles against cancer in his lifetime and even though the cancer prevailed, his final battle was inspiring to all who know him and loved him.  Contrtibutions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of Bloomington
