Leonard "Ray" Crum, 83, of Harrodsburg, passed away Saturday,
November 13th, 2010 at his residence. Ray was the
son of Millard and Claudine (Henson) Crum born on July
19, 1929.
Ray was born in Flora, Illinois and later moved to
Harrodsburg, IN where he attended Smithville High School.
Upon graduating from High School in Arizona, Ray enlisted in the US
Navy in 1948 serving a total of 13 years during Korea and Vietnam.
While in the Navy, Ray served as a Boatswain Mate Second Class,
serving at duty stations in Saipan, Japan and California. He served
on several ships including the USS Skagit AKA 105 and the USS
Tillamook ATA 192.
It was while stationed in Japan that Ray met his wife of 40
years, Tomiko. He opened a language school and taught for 10
years before returning to the states with Tomiko. They
eventually took up residence in Harrodsburg, purchasing Ray's
boyhood home. Ray was a beloved husband, father, grandfather,
brother, uncle and old salt.
Ray is survived by his son Michael Crum and wife Pam of Santa
Cruz, California; one granddaughter Taylor; one grandson Colton;
two sisters Naomi (Crum) Decker and husband Bill and Charlotte
(Crum) Legge both of Arizona; sister in law Michiko Willette of San
Diego; and four nieces Claudette Rojas and husband Phillip, Linda
Meras, Laura Stehle and husband Jeffrey and Gabrielle Miller
and husband Chuck all of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Tomiko.
A memorial service will be held 12noon Saturday, June 18, 2011
at Clover Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the
Veterans Honor Guard.
