Louise Halliburton Hicks passed peacefully from this life on December 5, 2010 at the age of 83. She was born on April 4, 1927 to Troy and Louise (Edmondson) Halliburton in Sango, Tennessee. Louise graduated from the University of Tennessee where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and received her degree in Biology. It was at UT that she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Bruce Hicks. They married in 1948 and began their life together in Milan, TN, where she taught high school biology. Bobʼs coaching career took the couple to Spartanburg, SC, Laramie, WY, and Bloomington, IN. Louise embraced her role as a full-time mother and truly dedicated herself to her family. Louise will be remembered as a faithful, caring, gentle spirit who was a sympathetic and loyal friend. Love of family, nature, music and an appreciation of simple blessings marked her life. Her legacy is one of selflessness, respect and unconditional love.
Louise is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-two years, her children Barbara Gartner (Chris) of Park Ridge, IL, Rebecca Dickson (Bruce) of Austin, TX, and Robert B. Hicks, Jr. (Jennifer) of Zionsville, IN. “Grammie” is survived by her nine adored grandchildren Ellen (Josh Phillips), Anna (Eric Horsch) and Carleton Gartner; Neal (Allison), Andrew (Lindsey) and Lauren Dickson; and Robert III, Margaret and Charlie Hicks. Louise is also survived by her beloved brother, John E. Halliburton (Wena), many dear cousins, nieces and nephews whom she cherished, and her valued caregiver, Lana McCray. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Dorothy Halliburton Harris, and a young brother, Samuel Troy Halliburton. Visitation will be held at Allen Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 8, and the funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 9.
