I first met Marcella in the early 1990s when I was a studying Social Work at IU and she was an instructor. She was so genuine, I liked her immediately. After a friend of mine completed her internship under Marcella at Stone Belt (and had fabulous things to say), I decided to apply there to work. Almost 17 years later, and I am still there. Over the years Marcella has shared so much wisdom...I find myself quoting her all the time. and she has guided me though challenges both personally and professionally. She has been a true mentor and I will miss her forever.

My condolences to the family. Marcella was one of my first teachers at IU in 1992. It was nice to see a friendly face from home in such a big place. She was a gifted social worker and I learned a lot from her.

I first knew Marcella through our work at Stone Belt, years ago. We used to dream of a Counseling Center where persons with Developmental Disabilities would receive their due respect and understanding within the therapeutic process, as well as the mental health system. Marcella put that dream into action and along with select colleagues, saw it become a reality, in Milestones. I will always remember Marcella as a strong advocate, and as a friend who often delighted me with her language peppered with colorful colloquialisms. She will be greatly missed by many, and her influence felt within the lives of those who never even had the blessed opportunity to meet her personally. I offer my condolences to her beloved family, friends, colleagues, clients, and students.

I went to work at Stone Belt in 1996. Marcella was one of the most knowledgable and caring people there. She knew more about the needs of the people we served than anyone I ever met. She was a wealth of information on how to help people get the help they needed and she always had time for someone with a question. A source of encouragement for everyone. She will be greatly missed.

Marcella Padgett was one of my favorite social workers. I too met her through Stone Belt and shared a vision. Later, I had the honor of teaching some of her classes at IU and found another side of her that was also remarkable. I have favorite memories of Marcella....but every one contains a collection of pens....she once told me she carried pens because her father loved her handwriting and it reminded her of him.....Marcella had the gift of finding relationship in and to everything and how she loved Greene County....I was blessed to be a collegue and friend. I miss her dearly.

She enriched more lives than you can begin to imagine! I first met Marcella in the late '80s and had the pleasure of working with her for a few years. I learned much and enjoyed watching her continue to be a fierce advocate for folks with developmental disabilities.

What an absolute gem! I met Marcella years ago when I surveyed Stone Belt and knew her to be a fierce advocate for folks with developmental disabilities. Later, I had the pleasure of working with her. I learned so much from her. Marcella had such a wealth of knowledge and shared it freely and gently. I am grateful for the time I had with her and know that multitudes benefited from the efforts of this marvelous woman!
