Martha Fawley, 93, of Bloomington passed away February 13, 2011 at the Brown County Health and Living Center. She was born July 24, 1917 in Hazen, Arkansas the daughter of Harold and Bertha (Good) Bevington.   Martha grew up in Butler, Indiana.  She met her husband, Hugh Fawley, at a dance in Northern Indiana.  Hugh told his friend he was going to ask the next pretty lady to dance and it was Martha.  They married in 1936 and moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana where they stayed until Hugh retired.  After he retired, they moved to Brown County.  Martha was really into yarns and weaving and had three huge looms for awhile. Martha was one of the founding members of the Brown County Craft Guild. They eventually moved to Bloomington.  Martha was active in the Christian Science Community. She spent many hours reading and studying religion. Martha made many wonderful friends over the years.  She and Helen Nearing were very close and traveled together.  Martha is survived by her son, Coyote (Steve) Fawley.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hugh Fawley, one son Roger Fawley and two brothers Robert Bevington and Raymond Bevington.   A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Allen Funeral Home with Bill Breeden officiating.

    I knew Martha for forty years. We met at the Donald Coyote Institute for Advanced Studies where her son, Steve, was living with me at the time. Martha was the most 'hip' mother of any of my friends' mothers. I have been calling her on her birthday for years. I will miss my August phone call.
