My DEAR SWEET Martha, You taught me that Down Syndrome is merely a word and not a human being. You have left me with such wonderful memories and quirky little phrases and i will say the rest of my life! As you always said "I MADE IT"!!!!! Yes you did my dear- you made it home to live in PEACE with your "MaryAnn"

I just wanted to tell you a quick little story about Martha. One day we went to the park to shoot hoops & swing on the swings. Afterwards we were very thirsty so we stopped at the store to get some water. Near the register there were stuffed animals, namely Easter Bunnies- Martha was mesmerized by a green furry bunny- she smiled at it and held it. I bought it for her. She cuddled with it often. I think she was drawn to it because it was the same color as her favorite green pj's! I wish i had that bunny now to cuddle with...... PS- Martha was one heck of a basketball shooter!!!

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there; I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there; I did not die. She was loved by all and missed greatly. "You got that right!"

Mr Hines, I would like to express the condolences of myself and the rest of the Mattingly family for the loss of both Martha and Mrs. Hines. I always remember Martha as seeming happier than most of us ever get to be. She was blessed to have all of you as family. You and Mrs. Hines were among Mom's best friends. She blessed with your friendship and support. Thanks and God Bless you all.

My dear sweet Martha...since I left Miller you have held a special place in my heart. I will never forget how you would run up to me and say "you're back." I would ask "how are you" and you would say "you got that right." I will never forget the way you worked so hard on mopping the floors as that was your chore and you did not want any one else to touch the floor!!! I will miss you sweet Martha.....

How saddened I was to hear of the death of both Mary Ann and now of Martha. It was always a joy for me to see them (and Tim) coming into Church on Sundays and especially to see the delight on Martha's face when she got to feed and pet Angus. Always smiles and joy, what a blessing she was to so many. God has called her home to Himself and Mary Ann where she can be embraced and loved for all time! My prayers and sympathy to you Tim and to your family. Brother Benedict, O.P.

On behalf of the Down Syndrome Family Connection, based in Bloomington, I want to offer condolences to Martha's family and friends. I regret that I did not know Martha personally, but I have a 3-year-old daughter with Down syndrome, and she has taught me more in her short lifetime than I have learned in mine. DSFC would like to send some of our "Beautiful Faces, Extraordinary Lives" calendars, featuring local persons with Down syndrome, to the family. I could drop them off at the funeral home, if that would be helpful, or if someone from the family can provide me a snail mail address, I will make sure to send the calendars in the mail. Our thoughts are with you, Cyndi Johnson on behalf of Down Syndrome Family Connection
