Mary Elizabeth Bower of Bloomington went from this life to be with the Lord from her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Robert Freeman, at her side.  She was the daughter of William Thurman and Lula (Jacobs) Dunlevy of New Washington, In.  She was born in Scott County and reared near New Washington.

As a teenager she was an accomplished pianist and played for the Sunday morning worship services at the three different churches in her small town.  Mary attended Purdue University, but returned home to work so that her husband, George L. Bower, could complete his Purdue engineering degree.  At the time of his death in January, 2002, they had been married one month short of 72 years.  She was a co-owner with her husband and children of Bower & Sons, Inc.  She was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, life member of Purdue Alumni Association and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She was a long time volunteer at Christian Center children’s services.

Survivors include sons; George L. Bower, Jr. (Mary), William C. Bower, daughters; Betty B. Freeman (Robert) and Nina Lee (J), all of Bloomington, 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Bower, her parents, sister, Grace Barnes of New Washington granddaughter Linda Lou Firpi, grand Richard Vern Bower, and great grandson Andrew Joseph Mirer, all of Bloomington.

Memorial services will be held at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church chapel on Monday, Nov. 8th at 12:00 p.m. with Tom Ellsworth officiating.  Friends may greet the family from 10:00 until time of services at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sherwood Oaks Christian Church children’s department or Michael J. Fox, Parkinson’s Foundation, in care of Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37, Bloomington, IN  47401.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenfuneralhome.org.
