Naomi “Nemie” Ruth Stone, age 70 of Bloomington passed away Tuesday March 8, 2011 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. She was born In Lawrence County on September 21, 1940 to Charles and Mary Birdie Taylor Kern. Nemie, which she preferred to be called, was a graduate from Mitchell High School in Mitchell, Indiana. She then worked briefly at RCA before devoting her time to raising her two daughters. Nemie was a member of the Bridge Church of Christ, loved spending time in the garden and the out of doors; bowled at one time in her life and was an avid Indiana University basketball fan. Her family remembers her most fondly though as one who became a loving and devoted caregiver to numerous family members in the later part of her life. Nemie leaves behind her daughter Natalie Rodgers of Salem, Oregon; daughter Laura White of Indiana, and two grandchildren, Jennifer Rodgers and Mickey White. She is also survived by sisters Jeanne Sickman of Stendal, Indiana, Rosie Bihler of Alameda, California, Emma Ira of Bloomington, and a brother Kenny Kern of Bedford, Indiana. Nemie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 1991, brothers David and Pauly Kern and sisters Ruby Burns and Eula Gardner. Funeral services for Nemie will be conducted Saturday March 12, 2011 at 10:00AM at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37. Visitation will be on Friday March 11, 2011 at Allen Funeral Home from 6:00PM until 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
