Pearl Lemish Nemeth died on January 1, 2011, four months past the age of 88 years, in Bloomington, Indiana.
She was born August 17, 1922 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to Anna and John Lemish, immigrants from Russia. Depending upon which sister or brother recounted the family history, there were between nine and fourteen siblings.
Pearl married John Gaza Nemeth in 1941, in Hammond, Indiana. She was a partner with her husband in a number of small businesses. In 1972, she and Gaza divorced and she lived in Phoenix, Arizona for the next 25 years. During that time, her Arizona family became five women she befriended, who, along with Pearl, called themselves “The Six-Pack.” She also had the friendship of Ann and Pauline, two sisters who lived close to her in Phoenix. On a return visit to Indiana in 1995, she and her former husband attended a family party, and remarried two years later.
Pearl was a loving and devoted mother to their three children; Judith Nemeth Stimson, Donna Nemeth Lodge, and John Gary “Poncho” Nemeth. She is survived by her daughter, Donna, whose nickname for her mother was “Tootsie.” Other surviving relatives include her son-in-law,
Howard Rinehart Lodge, her four grandchildren, Hillary Nemeth Lodge, Justin David Stimson, Seth Cameron Stimson and Sarah Lindsey (Stimson) Moshe; her four great-grandchildren, Faith Marion Stimson, Noah Charles Moshe, Gabriel Ephraim Moshe, and Aila Judith Moshe, as well as nieces, nephews, grand nieces/nephews, and friends who were fortunate to know her.
Those who knew Pearl will miss her sense of humor and positive attitude that enabled her to deal with the challenges in her life with grace.
