Perry “Joe” Lucas, Sr.,91, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday March 20,2011 at Garden Villa. He was born March 16, 1920 in Bloomington to Samuel and Ella May Duncan Lucas. Joe spent his working career with Detroit Diesel Allison in Indianapolis where he worked in materials handling and then production control for 40 years before his retirement n 1980. Prior to his career he served his country proudly in the United States Marines during World War II. He was active for years in the VFW, the American Legion, The Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite. After retirement he was very active as a mechanic with various dirt track racing teams in and around Bloomington. Above all else he adored and was completely devoted to his grand daughters, to whom he was affectionately known as “Pap”. He leaves behind his wife, Patty Campbell Lucas of Bloomington; son Perry Joe Lucas Jr. and his wife Beth of Solsberry; daughter Sue Oberly of Reinholds, Pennsylvania; grand daughters Sarah, Hannah, and Mariah Lucas, Teri Fegley, and Sharon Fisher and three great grand sons. He is also survived by his brother Lester Lucas of Bradenton, Florida. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law Gerald Obery, a sister-in-law Joan Lucas, a sister Wilma Fish and her husband Henry, a brother Paul Lucas and his wife Helen. Funeral services for Joe will be held Thursday March 24, 2011 at 11:00AM at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37. Rev. Tim VanDeventer will be presiding and entombment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.Visitation will be on Wednesday March 23, 2011 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM, and from 10:00AM until the time of the service at 11:00AM on Thursday, also at Allen Funeral Home. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Joe’s memory to The American Heart Association, the Diabetes Foundation, the Alzheimer's Foundation or the donor's choice.
