Mike “Buckeye” Schaefer, age 57, passed away in Bloomington Hospital on September 5, 2010 after surgery. He was born to Robert J. and Jeanne C. Schaefer on July 13, 1953 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Mike graduated from Hartley High School in 1971 and with a degree in accounting from Franklin University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Nancy L. Lee in 1983 and she rapidly became a Schaefer and a true Buckeye fan (Mom loves her). He has a daughter Tracy Lynn. Mike worked for Indiana University and General Electric. At the time of death he was retired (disability) from General Electric. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Irene Hanlon and Bob and Lauretta Schaefer, father Robert J. Schaefer and brother Scott Stephen Schaefer. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Nancy, his loving mother Jeanne, his brothers Jim (Angel) , Mark (Bill), Don and good friend Janine (Wisconsin) Maney, nephews Justin and Tony, niece Jenny, extended family members and good friends Fred and Penny Baugh and Mike “Purdue” Arnold. Mike was an avid bowler with multiple 300 games. He also was a member of Rolling Meadows Golf Course. His allegiance to Ohio State football was legendary in Indiana and his OSU family room and car decals were eye catchers. He, his wife, his brother Don and his mother Jeanne attended many OSU bowl games (The fearsome foursome) GO BUCKS! Mike loved all animals especially his dog Gizmo and cats Tigger, Lil Bit, Princess, Fluffy and Cricket. This is “Buckeye’s” Memorial so wear your team colors to say goodbye to Mike. We loved him very much, will miss him so much, and see him again. A memorial service will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Allen Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society in memory of Mike.
