Raymond Howard Tichenor
Date Of Birth:November 18, 1937
Date Of Death:August 3, 2011
Service Date:August 11, 2011

Raymond Howard Tichenor (73) passed away at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 3, 2011.  He leaves behind a solid legacy of business leadership, civic responsibility and philanthropic generosity.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 18, 1937 and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Ray made Bloomington his home for over 50 years.  He attended Atherton High School in Louisville and Indiana University before he and his late brother Jack Tichenor, co-founded T.I.S. Group, in 1962.
In addition to his 49 years of service to T.I.S., Ray served numerous boards, committees and organizations including Sertoma, Society of Friends of Music, National Association of College Stores, Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, Bloomington Country Club, Volunteers in Medicine and Morris Innovative Research.
Together, he and his late wife, Marcie, established the Jack D. Tichenor Scholarship for Indiana University Athletics, the T.I.S.-Tichenor Friends of Music Scholarship and the Ray and Marcie Tichenor Scholarship for Ivy Tech.  They also established funds to support The Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, WonderLab and St. Mark's United Methodist Church.  In recent years Ray was passionate about and supportive of the work of the Bloomington Hospital Foundation including Hospice House and The Children's Therapy Clinic.
Ray is survived by his children, Tim (Terri) Tichenor, Jon (Marta) Tichenor and Beth (Kevin) Theile all of Bloomington and 8 grandchildren (Tyler, Taylor, Tessa, Bailey and Griffin Tichenor and Kendall, Madison and Regan Theile).  Ray is also survived by his brothers Thomas Tichenor of Louisville, Kentucky and Robert Tichenor of Champaign, Illinois.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Tichenor, his brother, Jack Tichenor and his beloved wife, Marcie.
Ray was a diehard fan of Indiana University Basketball and Football and he cherished working in his yard.  But most of all, he loved his family, friends and colleagues who kept him grounded and connected to what mattered most.  "….From everyone whom has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one whom has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 11th at 3p.m. with family receiving visitors from noon to 2:30.
Sympathy may be expressed through memorial contributions to the Tichenor Funds at either the Community Foundation of Bloomington, 101 W. Kirkwood, Suite 321, Bloomington, IN 47404 or the Bloomington Hospital Foundation, 405 N. Rogers St., Bloomington, IN 47404.

We were so sad to hear of Ray's passing. He, Marcie and my parents, the Boomers, had such great times in Hawaii and shared many wonderful stories with us. Please be assured of our prayers in the days ahead.

I wish to send my condolences to the family, friends, and business associates of Raymond H. Tichenor. I met Mr. Tichenor in the mid-1990's and he later became a founding and long standing patron of my professional practice. I found it an honor to serve Mr. Tichenor for nearly 11 years. The hours of stories and admiration Mr. Tichenor shared about Marcie, their children, and grandchildren will be what I recall when remembering Mr. Tichenor. His devotion to family is an inspiration to me as I now start my own family. I will remember Raymond all the rest of my days. Eli Joseph Balaban
