Rex F. Walters, 70, ofBloomington, passed away Monday at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1941 in Bloomington, the son of J. Oran and Alice F. (Owings) Walters.  Rex was one of the four original career firefighters with Perry Township. He later retired from Perry Clear Creek Township (1970-2001).  Rex was a member of the Silver Sticks Senior Travel Team. He was an avid CUBS fan and a member of the Softball Hall of Fame inMonroeCounty. He was still actively playing slow pitch softball at Twin Lakes. Rex is survived by his wife Judith Walters of Bloomington; three children Kellee R. Walters ofWinchester,VA, Amy L. Van Pelt (Bob) and Bryan Walters (Dawn) both of Bloomington; four grandchildren Hanna Van Pelt, Tyler Van Pelt, Owen Walters and Graham Walters; one sister Patsy Merrick of Trafalgar; three brother-in-laws Jack Hendricks (Jackie), Jerry Davis (Pam Bay) and John Davis (Linda); and several nieces and nephews. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, two brother-in-laws Don Hendricks and Bill Merrick and one sister-in-law Margueritte Kinser. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at Allen Funeral Home with Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Community Kitchen or Backstreet Missions in memory of Rex.
