Vaughn Bass Rice, 80, of Bloomington passed away on March 26, 2011. He was born on May 23, 1930 in Bedford, IN to William Blake and Sylvia (Bass) Rice-Currie. Vaughn served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955. He attended Indiana University and then went to work for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Bloomington, IN from 1956-1986.
He was the General Manager from 1962-1984 and then became President of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company from 1984-1986. Vaughn was a loyal I.U. fan, enjoyed fishing and golf. He was also a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church, the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Indiana University Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife, June (Hess) Rice, daughters, Karen Sellers and her husband Bill of Orlando, FL, Charlene Truesdale and her husband Rodney of Littleton, CO, sons, Linwood Rice and his wife Christi of Titusville, FL, and Daniel Rice of Titusville, FL. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Tierney Nickell and her husband Hobart of Bloomington, IN, step-sisters, Annabelle Melton and her husband Bob of Nashville, Tammy Brenneman of Indianapolis, IN, Rosie Rice of Nashville, Patty O’Neil and her husband Rob of Freetown, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother and step-father Mel Currie.
Services will be Friday April 1, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old State road 37, Bloomington, IN. Visitation will be from 12-2 prior to services on Friday. There will be a private family burial at the New Payne Cemetery.
